Summaglo Natural Look Lesson

Recently a friend and I attended a makeup workshop at Summaglo. The workshop we could attend together ended up being a 'natural' look.

Summaglo stocks Becca Cosmetics so that's the brand we used. If you believe the makeup assistant, the founder of Becca visits the salon too. Anyway, the MUA was nice and managed to answer some of the obscure questions that we threw at her.

It was a very small class- only 3 people were there including my friend and me. The third woman was the model although the MUA only demonstrated on half her face. Then the lady had to replicate what she did on the other side.

The steps for the 'natural look' were:
  1. Primer
  2. Luminour Skin Colour (tinted moisturiser)
  3. Stick foundation - if more coverage is required
  4. Concealer
  5. Brows
  6. Cheeks - creme blush
  7. Powder
  8. Shimmer powder
Then the eyes:
  1. Eye tint
  2. Eyeshadow
  3. Liner
  4. Mascara
Lips:
  1. Gloss or tint or both
So that is the list of products required for a lady to look natural!

I went in with no makeup and after a 5 hour drive so my skin looked horrible. But after the class, it was smooth and looked like I had enough rest the night before!

Like the MUA said, different people will have different notions of what natural look like. For me, natural meant a smooth skin, gentle flush on the cheeks and mascara. So the class delivered what I had in mind plus a little bit more. It was also a slight plug for Becca but that was understandable.

I must say though, Becca does have the largest foundation range from very light to the darker skin tones. The colour of the tinted moisturiser that was chosen for me was the exact matching of my skin colour. No darker, no lighter. If I didn't already have my chosen tinted moisturiser, I would've bought the Becca one- even though it isn't natural (it's even better than Laura Mercier...). The coverage of the tinted moisturiser is sheer but it managed to even out my skin. The stick foundation is an extra step if you want more coverage. A tip with stick foundation- apply it with a foundation brush, not straight onto your skin!

Another skill I learnt was to apply creme blush with a concealer-type brush. Only dab it on the apples of your cheeks. So much easier than applying and then trying to blend with your fingers!

I ended up buying one item from Becca:

The fine pressed powder. I was missing a pressed powder in my kit. Hopefully this will prevent shine and set my look.

I was thinking about purchasing the creme blush because it gave the 'glow from within' look. The next step is to decide what colour to choose!

Another product of note was the eye tint. It acted like an eye primer as well as colour. Somewhat similar to the MAC paint pot or eye paint. And the Becca one managed not to crease on my oily lids!

The primer was also a worthy contender. I tried the resurfacing primer which is meant to reduce the appearance of pores and smooth fine lines and control shine. Very good and worked like a primer- it felt like I wasn't wearing any makeup at all! However, if I am going to be wearing primer everyday, I would like it to be natural and this one it ain't. For those who are on the look out for a primer, this one is worth a lookie.

All of Becca shades are earthy and neutral- so it's more for subtlety than artistic creations type.

I thought the class was worth the $19 we paid for the coupon. We also got $50 off for purchases over $100 (I bought something a friend wanted). Managed to learn a couple more makeup tricks and about the Becca range. And it was fun spending time with a friend that loved makeup as much as I do!
