I Am In Love...

... with Blythes! I ordered a Blythe too. It's called My Best Friend (MBF) - they have abbreviations and everything in Blythe world.

I thought I would only get one doll but after more looking around, I want 2 more! They are the Rainy Day Parade (RDP) and Neo Prima Doll Ebony:
  • RPD coz it has short black hair seeing as the MBF has "ash blonde" long slightly wavy hair
  • Ebony because it don't have bangs!

I've looked at the flickr blythe sites, the Australian site addictedtoplastic and the thisisblythe forums for the pictures of the ones I'm going to get. Even with a simple clothing change, they look so cute! Plus they are all unique in a different way.

So 3 is my max Blythe collection. Will be a dent in my wallet but well worth it! Must scrimp on other things now...

Good News!

Went to see the senior scientist at work today about my contract (I'm nearing the end of it). He said he will be definately extending it for another 6 months. Yay! Means I won't be poor for the rest of the year :-P Must save instead of spend. It's hard considering I have so many things to get from etsy!! To date, almost $200 worth of jewellery (after converting from US dollars) and upwards.

Speaking about etsy, here are a few things I bought: 2 handmade journals and a necklace with the pendant made from a scrabble piece.

The necklace by littleputbooks

The journal I bought with the necklace. It's super thick!

"Golden Waves" journal by thewritersbook. I'm writing my 101 things in 1001 days in here.

(The pictures above are taken from the etsy listings. I tried photographing them myself but they just won't turn out!!)

Speaking of my 101 things in 1001 days, the starting day is August 1st 2007. The ending date is somewhere in April 2010!!! Plenty of time for me to get over procrastination!

For all your Curtin students - enjoy the few days of holidays we have left!!

My First Experience at Sizzlers

Lastnight I had my first meal at Sizzlers. It was actually quite disappointing!

The people who went were Lee Sze, Lee Jun, Mei, Yee Wei and baby Ethan.

I ordered the garlic button mushrooms with a piece of steak and mushroom sauce. It came out on a bed of onion and capsicum. The onion was soooo raw! It wasn't even softened. The steak was bloody dry and tough and they even forgot my mushie sauce! The only thing that was nice was the button mushrooms with garlic. It wasn't only me that had dry meat, everyone else had it too.

The salad bar I found that much nicer! So much yummy salad! My fave was the balsamic vinegar salad with beef and the potato salad.

Might go again but this time it's just salad bar for me!

Esperance & Albany Trip

I'm back from my trip - well, I was back on Monday. I've also sorted thru the photos I took on that trip. It's a lot! I already uploaded the Esperance ones onto Multiply and still have the Albany ones to go. The above collage is a very very tiny representative.

As you can see, we saw whales! We saw them off the coast of 10 Mile Lagoon at Esperance. In Albany, we went on a whale watching tour twice but didn't see them. But they did give us a voucher to sail with them again until we see them.

Here's a little run-down of our trip.

We set off from my place on Thursday morning at 6am and drove all the way to Hyden where the Wave Rock was. Snapped a couple of pics and we were off to Esperance.

We got there earlier than expected which was good coz then we did some sightseeing since the weather was quite good. In Esperance, Jason took me (since it is his home town) to Pink Lake, Twilight Beach, the wind farms, the jetty, Museum Village and the Arts Center. We stayed at his mum's and dad's place.

On Saturday morning, we set off for Albany. In Albany, we visited the Amity brig that first carried the settlers from Sydney to Albany, Mt Clarence and Mt Melville, Whale World, the Blowholes, the Gap and Natural Bridge as well as a couple of museums and the whale watching tour.

Then on Monday afternoon after the second whale watching tour, we head back to Perth.

I really enjoyed this trip. I think I'm getting used to the long hours of driving :-) I would definately go back again for the whales!!!

Inspiration

Me being an avid reader of Meshell's blog (I die when she doesn't update for ages or says she's on a break) read that she's doing the 101 things to do in 1001 days.

Me thinks: ahh... something I can try and at the end feel like I've achieved something!

From the website:

The Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days? Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as new year's resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Some common goal setting tips:

1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it.

2. Stay Focussed. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.

3. Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.

4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.

5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.

2.75 years is quite a fair bit of time. All those things I have been putting off until uni ends (such as cleaning out my room) can finally be done! And when the time comes, at least with this list, I won't forget to do it!

I have started the list. It's a actually quite hard to find 101 things I want to do. I think I'm up to 84. Next I've got to figure out how to calculate the end date...

So to celebrate me starting a big list, I bought 2 handmade journals from etsy. I haven't violated the Wardrobe Refashion Rules yet!

The first one is for my 101 list, so I made sure the journal had more than 100 pages (this one has 126) so I can write each goal on one page and what I did and when.

The next one is for my completed projects. While compiling my list, I thought, it would be good to keep a record of the stuff I make, when I finished it and comments about the pattern and perhaps a little picture of it.

While deciding to purchase that journal, found a great necklace.

Littleputbooks, definately someone to check out.

I don't think I will post the list up here. There's some stuff I don't really want to share with the whole entire world coz they are quite personal...

Also I'm returning to knitting! I've decided to sew in the day and knit at night. Right now I'm knitting my first ever pair of socks! So far so good. Right now I am enjoying it so not getting rid of my knitting stuff yet.

Knitting was my first craft I got into. Simply coz I didn't have my own sewing machine when I first moved to Perth. It was portable but slow going. When we moved into our own house and I found a sewing machine at the markets, I kinda got into sewing and forgot about knitting. Sewing was so much faster!

Then Lincraft issued their free How To magazines and they had heaps of knitting stuff and I thought I might try it again - with socks. Hehe

I'll let you know how they go. At least I won't be idle during the driving we have to do from here to Esperance and Albany and back up.

Completed: Green Hoodie by Burda

Pattern: Burda 8291, View E

Fabric: Stretch sea foam green knit and cotton lining for hood

Difficulty: Pattern stated Very Easy.

I had no trouble following the instructions. Didn't have to unpick anything. The pattern pretty much pieced itself together. The only thing that didn't quite fit in was the sleeves, which caused the "bunching" at the top. But I thought that gave it a nice unique touch.

This is the second hoodie I've made and it's definately better than the last as in the fit and the lines matched up. It's more fittted (I made it in a size 10 according to the measurements).

The differences from the first hoodie and this hoodie is the hood bit has an extra rectangle in the middle of the hood and the fact the hood meets at the center of the front of the garment so you don't need an extra facing at the front. (Phew! Long sentence)

I'm thinking of adding extra embellishments on the torso of the hoodie from the flowers of the lining. Don't think I will be adding a pocket at the front. However, I do have a lot of the green knit fabric left over that I don't know what do with...

I found the hood to be big and looked out of proportion to the whole garment. But then it fits over your head so not too fussed about that.

Would I make it again?: Yes, but then I've got another Butterick hoodie pattern to try :-P

These shots are taken in my bathroom so excuse the towels.

Skin Analysis

I went for my free Nu Skin VISIA and Optimiser treatment analysis after being the winner of the many draws I entered at the EveryWoman expo. It was in Subiaco in a small room which also had a shop front for all the Nu Skin products.

First the lady took photos of the right side of my face as this is the side that is most affected by UV rays if we are driving.

The VISIA machine

Then it is examined by a computer and you get results for wrinkles, texture, pores and stuff like that. The lady will explain what the numbers mean and give you a copy of the pictures so you have something to compare to if you come back for a second analysis.

After that you go thru a series of questions and the program will give you a list of their products you should be using to get smoother, glowing skin.

My skin is actually quite shocking. I have pores and texture (yikes!) but no wrinkles :-) I have to start using a scrub to get rid of dead skin and a mask to purify. The lady also showed how I would look in 20 years time - more larger pores (double yikes!). There was also a whole heap of other creams and lotions to use. All very expensive. While I was waiting for the lady to finish up with her previous patient, some customers came to the store and bought $200-300 worth of stuff. Rich people I tell you.

I didn't get any of their own products that day. But I did buy some Neutrogena scrubs and cleansers. Hope they help clear up my skin. I really don't need anymore creams as I bought extras when Olay was having a sale at Priceline.

It was definately an eye opener but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone since the service there was quite crap. One of the counter staff was a bit dopey. I told her I was here for my VISIA appointment after hearing her explain VISIA to a customer and she stared at me for 30 seconds before she told me to have a seat -_-"

I think there's another place called Skin Deep in 3 locations in Perth, one being in the city, that do the VISIA analysis. I found them from the EveryWomans Expo and the staff at the expo were friendly and knowledgable. I booked for a treatment there and the lady on the phone sounded nice enough.

Want to know more info just email me :-)

Blythe Doll

I finally got my Craft magazie that I spotted a while back. Read it from cover to cover and it's awesome!! I recommend it to any crafty chick or dude. I also signed up for a year subscription and ordering the back orders too.

In the mag, there's this section on Blythe dolls. Oh it's so cuteeee! Now I want one to dress up and play with. Someone like this:
Cute huh? I can make little clothing and accessories. You should see what some people do with them! The downside is that the initial purchase is quite expensive. The above doll is $115. US dollars I think. And I don't think it includes postage. Arrggghh!

Read all about the Blythe dolls here and here.

Suyuan doesn't like them, saying they look scary. But I have read somewhere that they can be freaky to people who don't find them irresistably cute. Apparently her eyes can seem to follow you across the room.

I will look into the purchase of my first and only Blythe doll! Can't wait :-)

Sperm and Maltese Crosses

Yesterday at work, I got the rare chance to view sperm under a microscope! Well, I haven't seen sperm before so I think it's a rare thing!

Anyways, for you who will not get the chance to see sperm - it actually looks like a sperm in the pics. No eyes or anything, just a tadpole-like 'creature' if you want to call it that. It had an oval head with a pointy end and a tail end that issnt very long. It was right next to a red cell and the head is roughly the size of that, but just a tiny bit smaller.

(FYI, red cells are 12um in length - I think)

This sperm wasn't swimming along wonderfully tho. Since the slide was sitting out for a while, there was only a couple of alive sperm. The sperm was kinda jerking around. It came in a urine specimen.

Interesting stuff!

Also got to see some maltese cross in the same specimen. In second year this lecturer was talking about maltese crosses in fat bodies but we never got to see any. One year later, I see them! They are so so pretty.
Similar to these:

You can only see maltese crosses in oval fat bodies and they are a non-specific sign that the patient has a renal or prostate disease. Plus you have to use a polarising light to see them "shine".

Transformers!!!

Went to watch Transformers on Sunday with Jason, Steven, Jenny, David, Paul and Ben. Suyee had watched it a couple of days before and said it was really really good and funny. I found it surprisingly watchable and funny.

I haven't been exposed to the whole series of cartoons but I knew they existed so I can't comment on the adaptation to movie. Jason on the other hand, has a Transformers blanket and a couple of toys. He grew up with the whole series as well as his friends.

So the aim of the movie is for the Autobots (the good Transformers) to find the cube and destroy it so the bad Transformers (Megatron and his crew of Decepticons) don't use it for evil. The cube is apparently on Earth so that's where the humans come into the scene. Megatron obviously don't believe in saving the human whereas Optimus Prime does. Transformers are kinda alien robots who can change into mainly cars but there was a fighter jet and a helicopter as well as one which was a scorpion.

I liked all the cars. Very flashy and the best would be the Camaro.

Also found the police cars got an upgrade too :-P

Well, I recommend the movie to anyone. Transformer fan or not. I thought the little Transformer logo is cute. Would make a good tattoo.

Go watch!

Busyyyy

Been busy as since Jason came back. Just chilling at his place and since he doesn't have net connection, haven't been around the computer for more than 10 mins when I get to my place. Just enough to do EmailCash and check my Gmail.

My mum got involved in another accident. On the same stretch of road. Someone crashed into the back of her again. This time it doesn't look that bad. Just a dent on the back bumper and the boot cover is pushed up a bit. Got called up at 7.30am and had to drop Suyee off at school. Saw the other car. It was a Honda Accord, flashy car and it was blue. The guy driving it was some young dude. Smart young dude with no custom plates. This time we got all their details and stuff.

Getting the Corolla back on Tuesday and sending the Camry off to repair on the next Monday. It's bloody hard living on one car. Surprised we used to do it for a couple of years. But that was before we all grew up and found places to go that required driving.

Suyee is leaving tmls for CI. Yay!
Huahaha!

Jason also booked accomodation at Albany Metro Inn. Can't wait!

Found a new magazine: CRAFT. Saw it at the Carousel Newsagency and it looks pretty good. So far it's the 3rd issue. They only print 4 times a year so it's not that expensive. Plus it looks like they have lots of DIY and nifty inspiration. But the price the newsagency put on it is $23.95!! It's retailing US$14.99 which is around $17-20.
I think I will subscribe but should I buy that issue so I have something?? I hate waiting around for mail to get here. It's really nerve-racking. Like the subscription of SewStylish. Took almost a month to get here. Aaarrgghh! I can't wait that long! But then it's so much cheaper than paying $15-20 for a magazine. I guess there's a payoff.

I'm also getting the back issues (might as well build a collection :-P). The site that only does back orders is O'Reilly and they are doing a buy 3 and get 1 free. Might as well. Looks like I will have to wait. Bloody postage is a lot.
Anyways, that's about it for now. Laters

Makeup

Told you my next post would be on makeup! So soon too. I'm bored.

I would like to show you what's in my make up case. It is a case as you can see.

By no means is this a comprehensive list. I got bored half way and took photos of related items.
Ok, lets start with foundation:
Yes I've tried lots.
  • First is Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse. As you can see from the middle top picture, it's unused.
  • Next to that is Sally Hansen Fast and Flawless Airbrush Makeup. It's a spray can type. I thought it would be quick and easy but no... you have to spray a patch on your hand, use a wedge to blend in. You can try spraying it straight on your face... if you want to have patches. Very unpredictable spray. Also I found it very hard to get off. It's waterproof so you definately need more than water to get it off. Otherwise, good for summer when you want your make up to stay.
  • Moving along, Revlon Skinlights diffusing tint. This is best applied with a foundation brush. It sits on the skin and your skin looks luminous. But very hard to get off too. I think it's oil based. Use it when you want dewy skin.
  • Maybelline Express Makeup 3 in 1. They don't make it anymore. Boo! It's quick and easy coverage.
  • Finally the discontinued Maybelline Shine Free. Two bottles you ask? I say - they are 2 different colours. The darker one for summer and the lighter one to mix in winter. Except I haven't got that lighter this winter. So they are just sitting there... But definately good coverage. I haven't tried Maybelline's new oil free range. But I think to substitute, I would get Everfresh because it has the same coverage as Shine Free. The new oil free ones look like a tinted moisturiser.

Now my fave foundation!

i.d. bareMinerals!

Found my mineral powder shade at the EveryWoman Expo. It's medium tan and I won one off eBay. Bloody 2g jar is tiny!!! But apparently you don't use alot each time so it will last for a long time as the lady said. So far used it twice when I had to go out at night. I don't really like a foundation feeling on my face at night and glad to say this gives super smooth skin without the foundation feeling. Plus you look so natural. Like you got good skin! Haha. Really easy to get off too. Warm water and a gentle cleanser. Apparently it's so good for your skin you can sleep in it.

Now for the powders:

Initially I bought powder to imitate the mineral foundation. But they felt like you were wearing powder. So now I dust them lightly after liquid foundation, apart from pressed powder.

  • First is the L'oreal Translucide loose powder. Sometimes I use this like I would mineral foundation and when I'm in a hurry.
  • The middle two are the Revlon Skinlights Illuminator Loose Powder. I don't use this after the Skinlights foundation simply coz it's too bloody glittery. The foundation is already illuminated enough. With this, it would look like you sprinkled glitter on your face. This powder has such a lovely scent and I've worn this on it's own just to give my face a glow if you like.
  • At the end you have Maybelline Pressed Powder. For nose and the T-zone when they are a bit red and bits that will definately get oily during the day.

Next are eyeshadow:

Don't wear them all of the time (if hardly), but my fave is the Sportsgirl brown palette. Haven't used the purple shades (the right bottom one).

I totally believe in blush. If anything, I have to wear blush.

My fave... probably the powder ones. The cream/stick/gel formulas I have found hard to apply. Sometimes you get good colour sometimes too dark and not in the right place. Stick to a powdered one with a good blush brush.

The splurges:

Not one but two of The Body Shop loose beads. I think I should've stuck with the lighter coloured ones. Haha. Each cost $30-something I believe.

Something handy to have (although I don't use it often):

Comes with a mirror on the bottom side. I don't even take it out for touch ups. But pretty colour tho!

By the way, I don't take any make up stuff when I go out except a lipbalm and if I remember, lipgloss. I'm not the type to do touch ups in the toilets. Just smudge whatever is out of place and smile! Buahahaha!

As you can tell, I'm getting bored (again!)

Other stuff in my make up case are brushes and all those eyeliners. I am never ever going to buy black eyeliner. They don't work on me. So my eyeliners are brown. Oh and the mascara I use is the Maybelline Great Lash. The one in that pink and green tube. It works for me. Just rmb - eyelash curler!!!! Never leave home without one.

Please leave any sort of comments. Really appreciated. I would like to see what's in your make up case/box/bag. If you post it on your blog, send me the link and I will definately visit it!

Ta!

Moment of Loving

Refer to blahsuziedesigns as to why I'm so excited! A little clue:

Finally got to watch Little Miss Sunshine on DVD. It's awesome! I love it!! Olive is just so adorable and raunchy with her routine. I think Dwayne's a great representative of the teens around today ;-) Plus the dad is the kind of person you would like to punch but then at the end he pulls through for the family. And how can you not forget Toni Collette? She is a great mum in the movie and issnt one of those competition mums.

Did anyone see those other girls who performed??? And the host? Looked over-tanned and plastic surger-ised.

Well, have a heap more DVD's to watch. Just kidding! Got Night at the Museum as an overnighter so must watch it tonight.

Big make-up post later. Literally!

Update on the Car

We got our car into RAC to get it quoted and sent to the repairers. As you know we still need to pay that $750 excess. We get to pick up our car next Tuesday. I thought it was going to be tmls :-(

So today I get a call from the lovely Beth herself. She must be so relieved I gaver her a real phone number. She went - I need some details, like my car registration for a start. Well Beth, did you not take down my car registration number?? Aren't I'm smart for not having custom plates. Silly billy. What happens if I gave you a fake number?? But at least I got her full name and address. She lives in Huntingdale! Very close to Lee Sze! Muahaha!!!!

Looks like we won't need to pay that excess anymore :-P

I've got a parcel to open. Laters!!

Rub-a-dub-dub

I had the pleasure of using a new bar of soap straight out of the box. It was a good feeling. The soap was a Palmolive Pure Cashmere Soap:

I think it's new because of the new Palmolive Pure Cashmere Body Wash which is said to moisturise your body while you shower. Personally I think it's a load of crap. I must add I haven't tried it and I'm hesitant. Now that it is winter, I shower really really hot water. I mean hot. You have a shower for 10 minutes and you're a lobster pretty much. I hate cold showers. I have a shower just to get warm. I know it's bad for the environment and wasting energy but having hot showers is not something I'm giving up yet.

Anyway, back to the point, when your water is that hot, I don't think anything is going to save your natural oils on your skin. Unless it's after the shower. During the shower... don't think so!

That was on the body wash I haven't tried yet. The verdict on the soap- not very effective either. It has a soft lovely scent tho which reminds me of the Dove cream soap in Fresh Touch.

I have always used Dove cream soap:

Now that is what I call effective! It's creamy and non-drying and I can even wash my face with it. It's the only soap I do that with tho. However, it's super expensive and if I was living alone, I don't think I would buy it all the time.

It's kinda been passed down from my dad. At Christmas Island (CI) the water there is known as hard water. Basically the water passes thru heaps of limestone and rocks and stuff that it ends up with mineral content. Soap is icky to use there until you use... DOVE CREAM SOAP!!

But when in Perth, it's totally different. The water here is soft and you can get away with using any soap but sometimes you still get an icky feeling.

I've been looking for cheaper replacements for the soap which lead me to buy that Palmolive one. I've also bought Nivea:

It said "Creme Soap". But it's hardly that. It sucks! The soap gets really hard when it dries after a shower. Then it cracks. The worst thing is soap cracking!!! It means it's dry. Bleh!

I should mention, Dove seems to run out really fast in our bathroom with 2 other people using it as well.

But yeah... what soap do you guys use or are you a soap user??? Has anyone found the alternative to Dove? :-)

Random

After weeks of neglect, my nails are nice and decorated! Still using the Revlon nail lace. Plus I bought another pack of nail stickers from the Table 8 clearance in Harbour town.

Cute pack of butterflies:

Had work yesterday morning. Was surprisingly cruisy. Thought I would have heaps of speci's to process but didn't. Also got 5 more weekday shifts! Starting on July 9th. Yippee! More money. Muahaha!

Not much sewing has been happening. Just not up for it since I've got a cold. Can't think properly.

Been making a bag for Suyee (the other loser sister) but apparently she wants it EXACTLY the same as Suyuan's Mambo bag -_-" Let me tell you something missy, if you want it exactly the same - go and fucking buy it. Don't ask me to make it and complain about it how it's different. That's why people get stuff handmade. Because it's going to be different from what other people have. Sometimes I don't know who I have for a sister.

Yes I'm very pissed off at her. A blocked nose and critism don't go well together btw. I could totally beat her face to pulp.

It's also the same with my mum. There's just heaps of tension and I always end up shouting at her. They are just so thick. Meh, I really need to get away for a while. Can't wait til Jason gets back. Stay over at his place for a couple of days.

Get to start packing soon. Going down to Esperance and Albany for a mini break and just our annual holiday in the middle of the year. So will have lots of photos to upload when I come back. As usual the photos will be put up on my Multiply site since they've got good photo uploaders.

So far the itinerary is to set off on Thursday July 19th and drive 11 hours to Esperance stopping by Wave Rock and another rest stop along the way (the drive is 9 hours with non-stop). Stay for a couple of nights down in Esperance, drive 5 hours to Albany, stay a couple of nights there too and drive back to Perth Monday day.

These trips work towards my goal of "seeing Australia". It's actually more "see WA" but hey- better than nothing!

Oh yes, I'm planning to do my own Wardrobe Refashion for 6 months starting today. So no buying any new clothes or anything for this matter. Only allowed handmade (by other people or yourself) and you can refashion your old clothes and/or make new ones. Shall be a challenge!

Happy holidays!
